How to setup Remote Desktop Client on Windows

Introduction - Requirements

Well, in order to access your PC/Laptop you need....

  • Two Windows(Pro) running computers which are connected to the same network. That's all you need. let's figure out how to set up network sharing on both computers

Setting up network sharing

To make it more understandable, we call one computer as "HOST" other as "GUEST".
"We access the HOST from GUEST using HOST's user credentials"

HOST and Guest SETUP:

  • Go to the path mentioned below and enable network discovery on both computers.
 Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings\

  •  "Turn on network discovery" and "Turn on file and printer sharing" and hit "Save changes"

Now your HOST is ready to be accessed by a different computer(GUEST) in the same network.

Accessing the HOST from GUEST

  • Open "File Explorer" from GUEST (Use win+e if you don't know how to open file explorer)
  • Click on "Network" from the left-side menu. (You'll see a window like this with a list of computer available in the network)
  • Select the HOST computer name and "Right Click" and select "Connect with Remote Desktop Connection".

  •  Enter USER CREDENTIALS which are used to log-in to the HOST computer in the dialogue box and that's now your HOST is completely accessible.

  • Click on "YES" if you get any certification errors.

  • You are good to go
